A Season Full of Awards: American Film Institute (AFI) ~ Nominees

Arrival
Fences
Hacksaw Ridge
Hell or High Water
La La Land
Manchester By the Sea
Moonlight
Silence
Sully
Zootopia

What does all this mean?  Jackie and Loving are, most likely, dead...Zootopia is winning the Animated Film Oscar, Fences is probably Top 5 (which means Denzel is probably happening in Director) and Hell or High Water and Hacksaw Ridge are the REAL DEAL this season.  This is shaping up to look like an obvious Oscar ballot.

  1. I had a feeling Loving wouldn't catch on. Nichols makes amazing movies but no one outside of the indie world seems to notice.

    Sully though....Sully? Really?

    1. Was Sully as dry and boring as it looked?

    2. Sully was fine. It's pretty lean, actually, and Hanks really holds it together. But it's not award-worthy or anything.

    3. I wish the Loving had a better shot with Oscar because...it's just so beautiful!

  2. I hope Arrival can sneak into the Best Picture line-up. Sci-fi does seem to struggle to get nominated for the biggest film awards.

  3. I am seeing a pattern so it will be interesting what all the snubs will be as we get closer to the Oscars.

  4. Hell or High Water could be a BP nom, but I'm guessing it just misses.
