Poster & Trailer Break: By the Sea

Yes, I know that last year I stanned for months for Angelina Jolie's Unbroken and saw that fizzle at Oscar's feet, but this isn't about Oscar this time...this is about the pure drama of it all!!!  This looks so melodramatic it hurts, but in a blissfully, passionate and obsessive kind of way.  Just watch it!

The word around this movie has been spread for a year now, since this is an original script penned by Jolie that apparently features some VERY explicit sex/nudity between her and hubby Brad Pitt, and so there is obvious interest piqued because of that alone, but this Old Hollywood throwback looks seriously rich, and I personally can't wait to consume it.

The fact that they dropped this trailer/poster combo on the same day that Aniston announced she was married was...kind of amazing.

  1. I love the mystery behind it all. As much as I love the actors, though, I do worry that it'll come off as mainly a showcase for the couple. It does have Neils Arestrup (A Prophet), Melvil Poupaud, and Melanie Laurent co-starring, though. That's an added bonus.

    1. Yeah, I'm loving the cast (like, LOVING), but I have a strong feeling that this will be all about Brad and Angie, and I'm ok with that if they deliver.

  2. Lovely to look at, although all the smoking longingly gave off a slight cigarette ad feeling, and I like that the entire plot wasn't laid out but the music is awful.

    1. Aw, I kind of loved the musical choice here. I love when a song is worked into the languid emotional feeling of a trailer.

  3. Hmmm. I don't know. It's definitely one I will keep an eye on. And this the first time I'm seeing her use the name Angelina Jolie Pitt?

    1. Yeah, it's the first time I noticed that name use as well.

  4. Looks okay imo. I don't think it has the potential to be that great.
Love that Niels Arestrup is in this movie though. He was fantastic in A Prophet.

    1. Arestrup is pretty much great in everything I've seen him in.

  5. I don't think I want to see Jolie naked. It's like seeing a skeleton in anatomy book

    1. Don't watch Original Sin...or Gia...cuz she's naked A LOT in those.

    2. Already seen those and that was before she looked like she does nowadays :/

  6. This does sound intriguing especially since she wrote, directed and stars in it. It sounds like a real relationship. Let's hope Hollywood doesn't place their negative vibes on her because she is becoming a powerhouse in her own right. Big wigs-men, get put off when women show such strength and intelligence

    1. Jolie is boss. Like, she's one of the most powerful women in the world, and for just reason. She's an extraordinary person, period.

  7. I am so intrigued by this, and the fact that word has only come out about it very slowly is even better. I like a little mystery surrounding my movies! It's weird that she's only just now using the combined last name, but I guess it makes sense since they're playing a married couple... kinda tacky too though. But then you had to point out that they dropped this on the very day that Jen announced her marriage and... the SHADE. THE SHADE OF IT ALL.

    1. LOL, I can't imagine that the shade was intentional, since these trailer/poster release dates are planned in advance, never just spur of the moment dropped...

Now, Aniston may have released the info on her wedding same day as a form of shade.

      ;-)

    2. I'm hoping that Jennifer Aniston as a newly married woman, a very successful performer and you know...an adult has moved on, unlike the ridiculous rags, and is focused on her present relationship not one that fell apart a decade ago.

  9. Hi! Don't really get to comment but I just wanna say I enjoy your writing.

This does look indeed very melodramatic and it will be. I hope it's an alright film, it looks good in the trailer so it would be a shame to see it slaughtered by critics. Unless it's just bad. But we'll see about that.

I did not pick up on how the trailer dropped the same day Jennifer Aniston announced her marriage which I am happy for. Makes you think.

    1. Thanks so much for the comment and the kind words. I'm hoping that this is gloriously melodramatic. Melodrama done right is delicious, for all the right reasons!

  10. Angelina Jolie does absolutely nothing for me. Brad Pitt, on the other hand....

    2. Lol. I might not go that far. But he is a fine-looking man (I can appreciate that for sure) and an actor I just love more and more with each film. I've never been a Jolie fan and have seen none of her directorial work.

    3. Pitt's career is really quite incredible and one that I think a lot of people take for granted because of his celebrity status.

  11. Jole angry crying in that one scene gave me old-Angie vibes...I'm slowly getting interested in this one. Very slowly though.

    1. Hehe...I don't really take a side, but I'm always on the side of talent, which is why I pretty much watch all of Pitt and Jolie's movies and skip most of Aniston's stuff.

      :-P

  13. They've both made a lot of compelling to not-so-great movies, and Jolie's directing goals are admirable...but I fear that this one is going to be too boring....

    1. I don't know if I get the 'boring' vibe. It looks rather lush and melodramatic, so it may be too 'loud' to be boring.

At least I hope...since I'm in the mood for loud melodrama!

  14. I want to see this so badly! Like, I have a feeling it will be glorious or a train wreck. Or maybe a glorious train wreck? LOL.

    1. It's not like the past openers have been all that wonderful, but I'm hopeful and happy that this seems to be being taken seriously.
