Unfortunate Blog News

Get ready to hate me.

So, the past few weeks have been CRAZY, and by crazy I literally mean that I feel like I'm going absolutely crazy.  What was once a very scheduled and almost routine life (you know, as routine as one can get with three children and two jobs) has been completely turned upside down by opportunity knocking and ringing the doorbell and eventually breaking the door completely down and bursting into the house.

Yeah, that kind of opportunity.

Anyways, long story shortened, I'm moving.  Sadly, that means that this blog is going to be...sort of dead for a while.  I'm sure you've noticed that I didn't participate in Thursday Movie Picks today, and I'm really sad to say that I won't be able to anymore, at least not this year.  This has been a really hard decision for me to make, but I had to make it.  Even as I'm typing this, my impulse is to delete these entire post and start thinking of sequels for this week's theme.  I LOVE blogging.  Realizing that I have to take a step back right now is hard, but there is no other way around this.  I have way too much on my plate right now.

So, here's the deal.  I'll be wrapping up 4 Ways a Best Picture with some of the best blogging buddies ever (we have four years left to post) and I'll be working to get the 2013 and 2014 Fisti Awards posted...but that's about all this blog is going to be worth until January.  Yes, that means no Oscar coverage this year (I hate me right now) and no more Fistful of Thoughts and no more Thursday Movie Picks and no more reviews and MY GOD WHAT AM I DOING!?!?!

I will still be popping by to see you guys when I can and leaving you comments and please don't forget about me.  I'll be back...I promise!

    1. I know, and it may not be that long, but I'm just swamped ATM and I don't see a break in that until the new year. I'll try to post something here and there and I'll be sure to be around the blogs, but as far as consistent posting...that's not going to happen for a while.

  2. Real life getting in the way. Hate to hear it. We'll miss you. But glad you've found a new opportunity to pursue. Best of luck and wishes on a successful transition. Peace.

    1. Thanks buddy! It sucks and it doesn't suck, if that makes sense.

  3. You must do what you must do-Dang!! When something you love becomes a stress you have to take care of the other things first before fun starts back up. If not this will become a stress and that is not good. Enjoy each day and moment even the hectic ones and hope to see your comments on my blog every once in a while:)

    1. Yeah, unfortunately that's where I'm at right now. Between a house I have to get ready to sell, pack up and store, move in with relatives (oh god no) until the new house is ready AND work...the very idea of working up a blog post (unless I do it at 1AM) puts me on the cusp of a nervous breakdown.

  4. Glad that you've been presented with an exciting new opportunity but moves are always so time consuming and something's gotta give. We'll all miss you being around but since you'll be back we'll just look forward to your return. Sorry you have to give up the Thursday three, I always look forward to seeing what you would come up with. But we still have a few weeks of 4 Ways a Best Picture!

    Best of luck!!

    1. Thanks Joel! The main issue is that, after our house sells, we'll be displaced for a few months awaiting our actual move, and I don't foresee a computer that I'll be able to occupy for anything other than work.

  5. I am excited for you and this family about your new opportunity. Does this mean you won't have to work 2 jobs anymore?

Good luck with everything -- we'll be here when you get back. :-)

    1. Yeah...it's looking like the two job thing may get consolidated into one...and I'm grateful for that!

  6. It's hard enough to fit blogging in when your routine is normal let alone going through a huge life change. Best of luck with your new opportunity and I'll still check in for the 4 Ways a Best Picture series in the meantime!

  7. That too bad. I really dig your site but personal life always comes first. Hopefully we can pick up where we left off in January.

  8. All the best mate :) I can empathise what with everything I have on right now too. Hope you can get back to doing what you love sooner or later, so long as it means you don't miss out on important life/family stuff! :)

  9. That's unfortunate, but I understand completely. If it makes you feel any better, once the school semester starts for me, I probably won't be as active on my blog. I'll still create posts from time to time, but not as frequently. Good luck to you, though!

    1. Yeah, there are a lot of bloggers who take months off for school...so I'm hoping this won't feel too heavy for me while I'm gone. I hate walking away for a spell, but I really need to.

  10. I'm impressed at frequency of your blogging with two jobs, three kids and a wife. I only have one of those things (a job, but just a single one) and you still blog more than I do. I don't even have a girlfriend...

Anyway...I enjoy your work, and I'll miss it. Good luck with everything. Hope it all goes well.

    1. Thanks. I get VERY obsessive and this will be good for me...help me to scale back so that when I come back I won't get so overwhelmed :-P

  11. Hey, I have been there - I had such grand plans when I started my blog, and then, life happened. But when opportunity knocks you'd be a fool not to answer and do all you can to make good on it (I was there almost a year ago now). Make the most of it and come back to us a happier, healthier Drew. I know I'll miss reading what you have to say, but this blog will always be here. Your opportunity won't. :-)

  12. I'll miss your posts, but personal life and family always should come first. I wish you and your family all the best through this time (moving can be so stressful), hope everything goes well :)

  13. I'm sad but opportunities aren't breaking the door down and bursting into the house everyday, right? Eh, I'll miss your blog, I'll say just that but I can wait. At least you don't leave the blogging forever. Success, easy road and good luck.

    1. Thanks. Yeah, it's too good to pass up, really. There will be some stuff to check out before the silence comes...but then I'll be back!

  14. Hope your move goes well, are you moving to something bigger for the sake of the children? Don't worry about posting so often. We will still be here when you have time to blog regularly again.

    1. The home isn't bigger, but the area is nicer and it's a place I know well and have been wanting to get back to for ten+ years.

  15. Hey, I understand. Moving is rough. Just get everything in order as well as things with your new home and your family. I'll still be around. I'll be ready with whatever new post you have.

  16. The blogosphere will be poorer for your absence, but life and family will always come first.
    Just take it easy brother!

  17. Oh my!! We will miss you Drew!! But hey, you have your priorities straight man, so don't feel bad. You can always blog when you DO have the time and we'll always be around to talk movies w/ you. As for forgetting about you? As Cher Horowitz would say, AS IF!! :D

So I wish you all the best with your moving plans. I pray that everything will go smoothly and stress-free. God bless you my friend!

  20. Bummed about the news, but I totally understand. Looking forward to any posts, and I can't wait 'til you're back on here more - hopefully, just in time for the Oscar noms, if not sooner.

Hope everything gets back to some form of normality after the move, buddy, and, as always, feel free to hit me up via Twitter or email if you need to. :)

    1. Thanks, Sati. It does suck, but it may not be quite as long as I guestimate. It really just depends on how smoothly and how soon the sale of home, move across country thing goes. I know that by January it'll all be settled, but it could be sooner.

      Maybe.

  22. Sooo...I commented, but maybe the Internet ate it again. F--king Internet.

Anyway, I'm bummed that you're gone, as the last week was super lame without you. Like, f--k this lame. But, I can only imagine, from your absolute dedication to your site and to the community, that this opportunity is going to be a blessing to you and your family.

And for that, I wish you nothing but the best. You are certainly a friend, and I'll miss you, but shit, man...you're just a Tweet away.

    Good luck, man.

    Go kick some ass.

  25. Sometimes you just have to take a step back. I had to take a hiatus for a few months earlier this year. It's a fact of life. Unfortunately, blogging has to take a back seat to our real lives. Trust me if I could blog all day I would...I just don't have the time, especially with family obligations. So I totally understand. I do hope you have time for a post or two for your blog before January, but the blog and your fellow bloggers will be here when you return. Best of luck.

  30. Hey Andrew! I got the message you sent me and I am gonna miss your blog. Till January, my friend.

I may not be active on my blog lately but I stil check out your blog, Cinematic Corner, And So It Begins, etc. I've been knee deep in music lately and it has taken a lot of time away from movies.

I've even missed three blind spots. My belief is that if my heart is not in it, then my writing will come off as stilted and boring. I'll get back into film though. I patiently wait your next blog post.

    1. I feel you, Luke. I had to stop the Blind Spot posts a few months ago, and now I'm stripping it back even more. I'll still be around a little bit, but my flow is going to be much more scattered.
