A Suspension of Projects...

So, I'm tired.  I'm really tired.  Running a blog is awesome, but running a blog on top of working two jobs, raising three kids and trying to retain some sort of a social life (and, you know, not neglect the wife) is really freaking hard.  When I started this blog it was because I wanted an outlet for my cinematic ideas, musings, opinions and whatever else I thought I needed to share with everyone out there.  It was fun.  It's still fun, but I have found in the past few months especially that I'm getting overwhelmed trying to keep up with projects I told myself I'd be a part of.  Namely, Blind Spot and A Fistful of Reads.  I LOVE these two projects, and yet with so much going on here (and, I'm not going to lie, compiling 4 Ways a Best Picture is TIME CONSUMING) they are stressing me out.  Like, my Reads post is due in a few days and I literally just picked up my book for the month yesterday...and I read 10 pages and fell asleep.  No, the book isn't bad...but I'M TIRED!  So, in order to continue publishing things like The Fisti Awards and 4 Ways a Best Picture and contributing to blogathons and updating my Oscar predictions and visiting your blogs...I'm letting these two projects go for now.  I will publish my reviews for those said films and books once I've read them, I promise, and I'm sorry to everyone who I promised to link in my Reads posts each month, but I just can't keep up with it right now.

  1. Hey Drew! I hear ya man. I always wonder how you do it, I mean you have TWO jobs & THREE kids, it's amazing how you manage to watch movies and run such a great blog!

Don't feel bad man, blogging is supposed to be FUN. So do it whenever it feels good to you, and you know I'll always be around to read what you've got to say. Blessings to you my friend!

    1. Yeah, I just need a slight breather. I don't want a big one (because I love writing for this blog) but I need just a little one.

I always appreciate your constant comments and support!

  2. I was scared for a moment that you were saying goodbye to your blog. A blog is supposed to be fun and not stressful. You have a lot on your plate so no worries and glad you will still write stuff here and hopefully still due the Thursday movie picks but only if it is fun! When it becomes a stress, then you know it's too much. so on my end-no worries:)

  3. I suspected all of this would be a tall order, but kudos for trying. I had to back out of Blind Spot myself for similar reasons of time management. Don't burn yourself out, bud.

  4. Oh phew, for a second I thought you were calling the whole thing quits. I'm glad you're not going! Blogging should always be fun, and the second it becomes a chore, that's when you've gotta work out how to go back.

    1. Yeah, I just found myself stressing over shoveling movies and books down my throat to meet a deadline. Watching and reading is supposed to be fun, too.

  5. You shouldn't feel bad, you consistently post great stuff and there are only so many hours in a day. You have to be realistic, and it's wise to scale back before you burn out on everything. And besides you'll be able to enjoy them all the more when you don't feel the clock is ticking and they are a duty watch or read.

  6. I completely understand. One blogger can't do everything. One of the things that helps me is that I've made all my features semi-regular with no deadlines (i.e. having to post an entry on a certain day). It gives me freedom to pick up and/or not bother with things whenever, other than Thursday Movie Picks and the occasional blogathon. Helps me keep the stress down and the fun up. Even so, it can get in the way of life, sometimes. When it does, stepping away for a few days works for me. So far. I had a lot of atuff I wanted to do blogging wise over the weekend, but said screw it, and didn't bother with it for almost a week (my last couple of posts were pre-loaded). It felt great. I'm rambling, but my point is it's okay to scale back. Try not to make this another job.

  8. Take a break man. Just chill, relax, and listen to some Vini Reilly. It's good music to chill out to.

  9. Don't worry about not posting as much! Actually that is good news because the pace around here was insane and even when you want to do something, it's dangerous that you will burn out and lose optimism for every creative thing, not just one project. Blogging shouldn't feel like work, I kinda feel like this lately with me running my site, GoT fan board and tumblr with my edits it's exhausting so the only good thing about GoT ending for 10 months in 2 weeks is that I'll catch my breath. If you ever feel bad for abandoning something - I don't even remember the last time I made Visual Parallels or even Saturday TV Special :D

    1. Yeah, I hear you! I'm looking forward to your Visual Parallels coming back, if they do, because I loved those.

On and up and up note, I should be starting GoT soon! Once the craziness over here starts to die down, I'll be ingesting it!

  10. Hmm, you are literary have the most constant blog. You nearly every week write a post or two. A break won't ruin your blog. And if you're facing all these personal problems (and two jobs) I am unsure if you're human 'cause you write great posts in so little time (and also to watch movies). Good job! Take a break. You deserve it.

    1. Oh, I'll still be here! This 'break' isn't like a real break. I love this place too much!

  11. Holy potatoes, you work 2 jobs? Plus being a parent is a full-time job in itself. The only thing I really want to say to you is that blogging is a hobby and a labor of love. It should never be stressful.

I'm glad you aren't leaving altogether, because that would break my heart. :-) You're on my short list of favorite bloggers.

  12. No problem, take it easy man. I should have my review up of Knut Hamsun's Hunger this weekend, but don't worry about linking it. I can see you already have a lot on your plate.
