PGA!

American Sniper
Birdman
Boyhood
Foxcatcher
Gone Girl
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
Nightcrawler
The Theory of Everything
Whiplash

The Selma snub is odd, but I'm not sure it's that telling.  The continues Nightcrawler support is also odd, but maybe very telling.  Unbroken, Inherent Vice and Into the Woods took a mighty blow here, while American Sniper got a major boost (what is happening with this movie?).  I don't think this will be our final Oscar ballot, but I do think we're getting a clearer shot at who really has a shot.

    1. Bah!

I don't understand it. The early screenings/tweets were pretty meh, so this is shocking.

    1. I have this overwhelming feeling that Nightcrawler is getting snubbed in favor of bland baiting from some other film, but MY GOD it's run has been unexpected.

  4. I'll post my final predictions next week, but I currently have 8 nominees:

    American Sniper
    Birdman
    Boyhood
    The Grand Budapest Hotel
    The Imitation Game
    Selma
    The Theory of Everything
    Whiplash

I think Gone Girl, Foxcatcher, Nightcrawler, Unbroken, etc. will just fall short.

    1. I really see no way that Gone Girl misses, at this point. Fincher, if he misses Oscar's ballot, will be, like, 6th, and with that much support for him, his film is bound to make an extended field. I say nine, with all that you've predicted along with Gone Girl.

    2. I don't think GG will happen because Nightcrawler is EVERYWHERE at the guilds, where it really matters. I don't see Fincher getting a DGA nod either. There's too much passion to go around, and I see films like GG, Nightcrawler, and Foxcatcher cancelling each other out. I won't be shocked if GG happens, but I have my doubts.

  5. I wonder why Unbroken is not getting the love. Is it really a bad film? Sometimes i think it is whatever the flavour is for the year. Gone Girl seems to be making a little noise and American Sniper. Hmmm let's see what happens

    1. Unbroken seems to be a case of too much hype with too little return...
