It's amazing how I've seen so many of the submissions and still only 3 of them made the shortlist. Looking forward to catching Wild Tales, Tangerines, Corn Island, Timbuktu, Accused and Leviathan.I'm only surprised by the Mommy snub. Two Days One Night is way too understated for this cutthroat category. I shouldn't have let the Critics Choice nod sway me.I suspected early on that The Liberator would make it but then, I let the negative reviews (even though it's actually a good movie) influence me there as well.
I saw the Mommy snub coming (I think I commented that on your blog last week), simply because it's so modern in texture and it hadn't been winning anything...but I really felt like the Dardennes had a shot, even at the win (although I really fear Ida has this).I'm really curious how the rest of the awards season pans out, now that we know what has a shot.
I'm angry that Two Days, One Night got snubbed. That is a great film and certainly one of the Dardenne Brothers' best work so far... I was hoping it would get a nomination as it would've given the film more exposure. I'm also sad for Mommy as I wanted to see it.
I wonder if we'll still get Mommy this year, since it was supposed to see US theaters before the New Year.
I haven't seen any of these but I have heard all the praise over Two Days, One Night, so yeah it's surprising that one's not included here!
It's a sad day for Marion Cotillard.
Boo! I thought they'd at least make the shortlist.
It really is a shame. Oscar does this all the time, though.
Oh look Ida, your favourite, is there:) I have not seen any of these sadly
