WOW, I've seen seven of these already and will be seeing Saving Mr. Banks this Wednesday. I'd have to rent Fruitvale Station before award season though I've kind of already know the story so I'm not too keen on seeing it.
Fruitvale Station is a really, really well done film. I reviewed it here (you can find the link on the review page). You really should see it.
I agree that it looks like Oscar's ballot, but will they nominate a full 10? Though it's a fantastic year, I can see less than 10 nominees getting in.
I do think that one will miss. 9 seems like the right number, but I'm not sure which will go. I still feel that Fruitvale is in. It has had a VERY strong weekend and that only bodes well for it. Saving Mr. Banks or Captain Phillips could miss, depending on the strength of Hanks I suppose. With Director and Actor looking so strong, could Captain Phillips be that one film no one saw missing?I'd probably rank the likelihood of a nom, based on their performances so far, like this.1) 12 Years a Slave2) Gravity3) Her4) American Hustle5) The Wolf of Wall Street6) Inside Llewyn Davis7) Fruitvale Station8) Nebraska9) Captain Phillips10) Saving Mr. Banksbut things can change.
I'd more or less rank them the same, except I'd put Her lower and Nebraska higher. And I'd be shocked if Fruitvale Station gets in.
After this weekend, I've lost a lot of faith in Fruitvale Station.
did not LOVE Llewyn Davis, although admittedly the music was incredible. wouldn't be heartbroken if it didn't win anything...
I don't think it's winning anything...but I have a feeling that it'll be nominated for a lot.
