Marion Cotillard strikes again!

Ok, so as was mentioned last month, Marion Cotillard was chosen to recieve the Hollywood Film Award for her performance in Rust + Bone.  A lot of debate has been going around Oscar websites about her chances at an Oscar nomination this year.  The reception of the film itself has been less than expected, and with it out of the running for the Foreign Language Film Oscar, thanks to Harvey Wienstien, many are disregarding her chances as wishful thinking.  Yet, today she was cited yet again as a Gotham Awards Honoree.  This may not mean much, as this is the Gotham Awards we're talking about, but this is certainly keeping her name in the race, and that is important at this stage.  The race is weak, the field is thin and her name means something these days so she could easily sneak in.  She has no shot at a win, but here's to keeping the Marion hope alive!

  1. You are right and i think she will definitely be nominated because i'm sure she will have the most buzz by the weeks to come with BFI (Audiard won the best film award 3 years ago and i'm pretty sure he will again) + Hollywood actress award ceremony to come + second tribute at Gotham (After Telluride) + the US and UK release of "Rust & Bone"+ the fact she's been ignored for past work + she will be nominated for a golden globe. Her time will come and she could quickly become unstoppable.

    1. I'm with you Mk...I really think people are dismissing her too quickly here. She is a previous Oscar winner and this category is weak this year. Until she's snubbed for the Globes or BFCA I say she's in.

    2. Yeah definitely! People forget how hard it is to actually win an Oscar and even harder in a foreign performance. I think the academy loves her. She may not win but a nomination would be a huge deal for her. And she still have James Gray "The Nightingale" (Harvey Weinstein will push her very hard, even more if she looses this year).
TBH the thing that will impress the most the academy is that Cotillard was, at the time of the shoot, already committed to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Rises, in between two sets and many diapers – she had just given birth to her first child, and was still breast-feeding him while her spirit was on both Audiard’s and Nolan’s assignments. And Hollywood could have closed its door at her face but she was still brave enough to shoot "Rust & Bone" knowing perfectly that her contract prevented her of doing anything else. Hollywood loves that kind of story because it shows her commitment to work.Personally I admit being a fan but what i said is true, Hollywood is really behind her.

  2. She definitely has a chance. It just doesn't seem like a great one at the moment. I really hope she gets nominated though.

    1. She's certainly sliding down the list, but her name is continually being mentioned, so she has a solid shot. After that Hitchcock trailer though, she's obviously now behind Mirren...so there is that.
