The Satellites!

So the Satellites really don’t know how to edit.  They’ve often had more than 5 nominees, but this is rather ridiculous.  How can you say you’ve narrowed it down to even mean something prestigious if you’re hell-bent on throwing nominations at everyone?  Alas, The Satellites really mean nothing as an awards body, but these are fun sometimes, and their winners are often different from the consensus (could this be a year where there is no consensus?) so it’s fun to predict whose going to walk away with that coveted (sarcasm intended) prize.

Like I said, these really don’t matter, but they’re fun.  The Artist didn’t do well here, despite getting in with the top ten.  It didn’t hit with director or actor.  On the other hand, they really loved The Guard, and yet they didn’t give it a Best Picture mention, which is surprising.  It’s obvious that they really loved Drive and Shame, so bravo for them, although they snubbed Carey Mulligan for both films, which is revolting.  I think Drive is picking up steam, and with it Gosling as well.  Most wrote him off early on, but I could see him rising in the ranks for this performance (not Ides of March) and possibly make Oscar’s shortlist.
